DRIVING away from the city on Parramatta Road, take a look out the window to your right around Homebush and you’ll see this elegant old relic of an era long past. The former Homebush Theatre started its life in 1925 as a cinema, undoubtedly screening such timeless hits as Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz and Citizen Kane in the decades to follow. In 1959, it was transformed into an ice rink before becoming the Nightrider theatre restaurant in 1986 and later the Midnight Star reception centre until 1996. The heritage-listed building has somehow survived, however dusty and derelict within, with a few odd stints as a base for ravers, squatters, anarchists and activists over the years since. Save her soul. |SMS
