Walking With Warriors

THE Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors is a vibrant visual arts installation drawing Sydneysiders of all ages to mark the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year in Sydney.

The paper lanterns were inspired by an army of more than 8,000 terracotta clay warriors, buried with China’s first Emperor Qin Shi Huang c.210BC, and only discovered by a group of farmers in rural Shaanxi province in the 1970s.

The 2.1m lanterns are on their inaugural visit to Australia, created by a team led by artist Xia Nan originally for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
