“We are trying to educate people about life and the medium is the puppetry,” says Maddy Slabacu.
Maddy, together with her late sister Antoinette, founded Horizon Theatre Company in the Sydney suburb of Wiley Park back in 1997.
Today, located in the middle of a quiet, leafy community parkland, this little theatre is a quaint and colourful reminder of the thriving spirit of an ancient art with European traditions dating back to the Middle Ages and beyond.
Young performers on the Horizon team eagerly learn skills in marionette techniques, as well as conveying emotions and physical expression through a variety of traditional puppets, with regular live shows for fans of all ages.
In recent years, the group has represented Australia in Romania, Maddy’s birthplace, where they toured their acclaimed show ‘Love Thee’ to an international festival audience.
